Something strange. When I captioned what Durst was saying, Tyler's last name was spelled "Jessum"
Are we sure what we heard in previous episodes was an actual "p" sound? What other episodes are Tyler's last name said in?

Its probably Jessop, and chances are, the CC misspelled "Aveneir" too.

Wow! I can't believe this thread is still moving stronge! I posted this in my confusion about a year ago. And then over the summer I lost the website here, so...I'm glad I told replies to go to my email account. Yeah, so, getting back on topic...I hope that dude comes back later this season. He was interesting.

yes and it was spelled Jessop in the other episodes by CC...
I know for a fact his last name was said in Technology by Durst...check CC on Technology...
**thought of something odd...Tyler was the prominent character in both episodes containing 'technology' in the title...are they trying to tell us something?...**
**CC spelled Avenir as 'Aveneer' in Nanotechnology...**

Its probably Jessop, and chances are, the CC misspelled "Aveneir" too. Did we hear the official spelling anywhere else? if not, the CC stands as official. Doesn't matter if the french spell it different, the word could have been altered by the writers. Tyler doesn't return for the rest of season 3. When he does return, we'll know the term that he left has ended (since that's the duration that Professor Z said he would be absent for).

I thought Tyler left for a semester, not a term. Professor Z said "term." Aren't a term and a semester the same thing?

Maybe in the US. A semester is half a year. A term is a quarter of a year.

Maybe in the US. A semester is half a year. A term is a quarter of a year. I don't ever remember the word "term" being used to describe school, except for "Midterms," which were the tests we took halfway through the semester. And "term paper," which was a big paper you had to have done by the end of the semester. Based on that, I would say a term is the same as a semester, which is half of a school year.
