Does anyone look forward to dying?

So...do any of you ever look forward to dying?

For some months now, at certain times, I've thought almost longingly of the time when I'll be dead - this is usually during periods when I'm feeling miserable. I get bouts of misery - something will trigger it, and wham, I'll be unhappy for a while. Then I'll feel better for a bit, and then I'll feel miserable again. My mood seems to keep alternating.

But yes, there have been numerous instances when I've really looked forward to the time when I'll be dead. The manner of my death worries me - I say suicide is the best way for me to die, as I'd be in control, but obviously, I don't know how I'm going to die - but at times, when I'm feeling miserable with how reality is for me, I really, really look forward to being dead, because I'll be able to have such a great time when I'm dead, and meet all these people, and do all the things I could only imagine doing before. Sometimes, it really, really thrills me. There are times when I wish I was dead right now.

you know I actually never really thought of wanting to die.... but from my point of view i want to live. but if i were to die i want to die because of like a health problem or something like that. (suicide is against my religion)

I don't think this is healthy Gideon, you should talk to someone.
There are still a lot of things I want to do and see in this world so no, I do not look forward to dying, not now.

I'm an atheist. So no, I'd like to postpone dying for as long as humanly possible.

I told you that you werent enjoying your life and you needed to start actively fixing rather than escaping into fantasy. Maybe then you wouldnt feel like dying. Can we agree on that? Good. Now, lets get cracking. What's first?

I would always think about death and issues like that logicly. Its the only way.The only times I woduld want to die when death was more desirable to life.For example if I had a termenal illness and I was in a lot of pain, something like that. I think examples when doctors say to 'pull the plug' is when I'd doit as the doctors know the best time. I wouldnt do it for anyother reason. Anything elce there would be a chance of recovery or if I was depressed I would know I would get better from that. If I had a terminal illness and I was not in pain I will stay alive for my family/friends. Basiicly weigh up the odds and only in extreme cases i would look forward to death.

Gideon you always say you are upset and things like that on the LPE and always say you are always sad. Are you OK? Do you have issues or soemthing? Maybe you should talk to soemone like Jesi said even if its just a good freind.

Several years ago I would say yes. But now I enjoy every minute of my life, I don't want to lose it.

I don't think I can say I've ever wanted to die. I think, even at my lowest, the thought of dying is more of a "oh well that bloody well puts the icing on the cake now doesn't it" thing.

I'm not sure everyone here is thinking on quite the same level as Gideon. She believes in the afterlife, that when we die we'll be put somewhere where we can experience anything we please. If you believed the same, it'd be hard not to look forward to death, at least a little. That said, it does worry me slightly reading what she's saying. If it's just the belief that the afterlife is better than here, that's alright, but the impression I get is slightly more... melancholic? Well...

It seems like the things that I want are virtually impossible to have - even the things that are within realistic terms. At least, it seems that way to me. That's part of the reason I feel unhappy - I look at what I want, and think, "There's no way I can get this, unless I'm dead."

I don't know if it's depression...I've been having what I call "miserable spells" fairly frequently since December 2005. There are just times when I'll feel very unhappy - sometimes it'll be triggered by something someone says - if someone makes an offhand remark, insulting some famous person I like, I'll feel put out, and then I'll get in a bad mood, and I'll start thinking about all of this other sad stuff, and before you know it, I'm really unhappy. Other times, I'll just be thinking about everything, and it'll just hit me and I feel miserable.

I was pretty happy while I was in America - maybe it was the change of scene, and being on holiday - but since we've got back to England, there's been this lingering miserable feeling that I've got.

Taling to friends and socialising and good ways to take your mind of bad things and to appreciate life more. if you think things are out of reach ask people for help and guidence, freinds family etc. will, I am sure, be happy to assist.

Aslso as I said before if you are feeliong depressed talk to a good friend.

Aha! So America is the happy place. ;D Ok, no, I'm joking. Well, sometimes I get those "depressed" moments too, but just write down those feelings in a diary or journal. It helps sometimes.

I'd really rather keep these things private from my family...I don't really want to tell them about all of this. It may help to talk to someone, but I don't want it to be any of my family members.

Yeah - if I ever see a psychiatrist, and he/she says to me, "find your happy place", which I've seen them do on TV, I guess I'll imagine myself in North Carolina. Or, at my secondary school - I loved it there.
