Basicly just a little thread to get some opinions on smoking. And by the way I would never as I think its dumb and refused an offer to try one.
(Sorry about the title of the thread I was trying to be funny)

Does "took a couple of puffs, thought 'meh,' and never did it again" count?

Does "took a couple of puffs, thought 'meh,' and never did it again" count? Thats the right thing to do! Well done! (How patronising, eh?)

I voted Never. After all, the packets do come with a warning that either "smoking kills" or that it's dangerous to your health. Plus, I don't want to smell horrible the way people do when they've been smoking and the smell of stale smoke clings to them and it's quite disgusting. Although, admittedly, when you're walking behind someone who is smoking, it can actually smell quite nice. But no. Not for me.

I thought that when a smoker passed me and I got scared! You mean you were scared that you'd be tempted to try a cigarette because the smell is nice and then you'd be smoking sixty a day? Don't worry about it. The cigarette smoke itself smells quite nice (although as I said, the smell of stale cigarette smoke on a person is disgusting.) However, if you want something to smell, go home and fry some bacon. (I like the smell of bacon frying.)

I voted yes since I've smoked on a few ocasions...most of them encouraged by drinking. And the after taste is horrible. So don't smoke, kids.

Now that IS patronising. Yes, I have heard of a lot of people smoking becuase they are drunk but regretting it.

Err, no, it's not really patronising at all, seeings as Menack's not an adult - he's younger than me, and only a little older than you! It's more amusing - dry humour.
And Adam: the title of this thread is painful.
I've never smoked, and certainly never plan to. With one small hitch. now play an active part in the USSU Stage Crew, which means doing a lot of gigs in the union. It's fine, on the whole (though I dislike the atmosphere - I cannot see why anyone enjoys it), with one exception. Smoke. So, so many people smoke in the union, and I have a feeling my passive smoking is on the rise. And I'm not entirely sure what to do about it, except quit what I enjoy.

I remember a drug unit we had to do in Health class. There was a video of what happened to smokers. *shudder* One lost her voice box, another got lung cancer, 3 of them got emphysema, and there were some pics of people's tongues who chewed tobacco, which was really gross. Anytime I pass a smoker I hold my breath. You never know, you could die from second hand smoking.

There is no evidence to show that occasional exposure to second-hand smoke will cause cancer or kill you or anything. Even sitting in the club probably won't hurt you, Islander, unless you do it every night for the next twenty years or something.
