... comes from the Welsh 'Fychan' (the f is pronounced like a v and the ch is a harsh sound in the back of the throat (rather like the ch in reich (german word, couldn't think of an english one), not like the ch in cheese)) which means 'little one'. I just thought that was really cute. And it has a Welsh connection so I must mention it.

The harsh sound in the back of the throat ... it's the same sound that's used for several Russian and Ukrainian pronounciations, if that helps anyone. And yeah, I speak a little Ukrainian ...
