How did you get involved in the show?
I went to an audition for the character of Vaughn, got a call-back for that and then was asked to come in and read for Marshall. I came in and read a few times and eventually was cast as Marshall Wheeler, the geek! Ever since, I live and breathe Black Hole High.
Do you all get on with each other?
Everyone's friends with everyone on set and we all love each other. It's often been pointed out that the set of Black Hole High is the most fun to work on.
Did any of you do any acting before you got the parts on BHH?
I've been acting professionally since I was about 7 years old, though I've done mostly theatre in and around Toronto and voice over work for cartoons like Franklin the Turtle. Black Hole High has been my first big series and it's been a good one!
Has anything spooky happened on set?
A couple of big strong men were bringing some stuff up from the basement and they saw the ghost of a little girl. I don't believe this too much, but apparently Auchmar House in Hamilton (where we film) is the second most haunted building in the city.
Are you anything like your characters in BHH?
We all have certain things in common, for instance I play music, Mikey (Lucas) thinks everyone is out to get him, Robby (Vaughn) is athletic, Emma (Josie) is independent and strong; and Shadia (Corinne) is diligent and smart. But we all have very different lives from those of out TV personalities.
What were you like at school?
I'm the guy with the baggy pants, the graffiti hat and the headphones. I take part in school shows and sports teams (hockey, football, soccer) and I love drama class.
Is BHH anything like your real school?
Nothing like my school. I go to an arts school, so its closer to what the school is like in Hemispheres where everyone's dressed up all weird and wearing eyeliner and we all think were expressing ourselves. Black Hole High has way better funding for the science program!
Who in the cast has the most annoying habit?
It's gotta be Mikey Seater (who plays Lucas) with his famous offshoot of energy before each take. Right before the director calls action on almost every take, Mike leans his head back and shouts out these made up words like "Shilikibooboo" in the form of strange African chants or something.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you on set?
I don't know if I'm allowed to say this but in the episode where I'm stuck speaking in gibberish, I was doing off camera lines for Jeff Douglas (Prof z) and I was in the middle of the gibberish line and I accidentally said "nipplesnap". I had no idea where it came from. It was pretty funny!
What do you enjoy most about filming BHH?
The cast and the crew are so much fun to be around. They make a hard job a lot of fun. In short, they light up my life.
Can you tell us a bit of gossip about one of the other cast members?
Emma's hair isn't really red. Shhhhhh!
Science questions:
Which human body part pumps blood round your body?
Hmmm the heart. Final answer.
What is the chemical formula for water?
H2O baby!
What’s heavier, a ton of feathers or a ton of lead?
A ton is a ton is a ton they're the same. Please, I invented those lines!
