Takes place just after stopwatch. Vaughn has to find out how Josie feels.... if she feels he betrayed her This is one of my fave songs. It's incredibly mushy so....
-----------------------------------------------
Vaughn crept into her room. She wasn't there. She was in science club, with everyone else...so there was no danger of her or Corrine walking in on him. He'd promised her after the first time he'd never do this again, but under the circumstances.... he'd better not approach her, lest she kick him where.... well where he didn't want to be kicked. He pulled her pillow back and found a small black book. He flipped to yesterday's date.
'Hello Vaughn, I might've known you'd read this.... you always were predictable' he felt a little guilty, was it that obvious? 'So If you're reading this I guess you're wondering a lot.... I'm a little annoyed that you couldn't talk to ME and had to spy through my journal.... but....play this.' There was a cd labelled 'play track 9'
"So here we are
We are alone
There's weight on your mind
I wanna know."
It was a Good Charlotte song. He'd never heard it before but it was soft and sorrowful, not very Josie-ish.
"The truth
If this is how you feel
Say it to me
If this was ever real." Ouch, that stung.
"I want the truth - from you
Give me the truth, even if it hurts me
I want the truth from you
Give me the truth, even if it hurts me."
He understood she wanted truth but... the truth was painful. He didn't want to hurt her. But here she was asking to be hurt. She was crazy, evidently.
"I want the truth
So this is you
You're talking to me
You found a million ways to let me down" Had he? Maybe telling her was less painful than hiding it from her?
"So I'm not hurt when you're not around
I was blind
But now I see
This is how you feel
Say it to me
If this was ever real." The song started to get heavier... noiser and more desperate. A bit like Josie, she could start out nice then get a little louder.
"I want the truth from you
Give me the truth, even if it hurts me
I want the truth from you
Give me the truth, even if it hurts me"
"darn it Josie, I won't!" he told the CD. It continued to play, not knowing that Vaughn was the one who was listening, or infact that anyone was listening. It was a CD!
"I know that this will break me
I know that this might make me cry
You've gotta say what's on your mind
On your mind." The door creaked open and Josie crept in. He didn't look up to her, he daren't, not when he was her in her room invading her privacy. And after all he'd not-quite done.
"I know that this will hurt me
And break my heart and soul inside
I don't wanna live this lie"
Josie muttered along with the words, She'd never been much of a singer, but it didn't stop her talking. Vaughn tried to block her out and listen to the music.
"I want the truth from you
Give me the truth, even if it hurts me
I want the truth from you
Give me the truth, even if it hurts me"
Vaughn stole a glance at her. She wasn't looking at him, she was staring determindly at the wall. She'd always been like that. So cold, something in her past must have hurt her bad.... and just when she'd been starting to come out of her shell he'd taken that from her.
"I don't care no more, no!
Give me the truth, Give me the truth
Cause I don't care no more
Give me the truth, cause I don't care no more, no!
Give me the truth, Give me the truth
Give me the truth, Give me the truth
Give me the truth, cause I don't care no more, no!"
She didn't...it was the truth. She was past the point of caring, she just didn't like to be lied to. She took the clicker and clicked off.
"So..." He said.
"So..."
"Would you look at us!" He said slightly annoyed. "Skirting around each other like three year olds."
"And whose fault is that!" She snatched her journal from him and put it back under her pillow. "Don't read my journal again," she added viciously.
"Okay, I shouldn't have read your journal again..." He admitted raising his hands in defeat. "What do you want from me?"
"The truth! What happened last night? Where's the chi ball? Why did you DITCH me to go off with your dad!" Vaughn sighed and turned to face her. He looked into her eyes. God that line seems soppy. She was staring determindly at him. It became almost a staring competition.
Corrine walked in and froze solid. Josie and Vaughn were sat staring at each other. She sighed.
"Sorry." they didn't move. "I said- SORRY." she upped volume a little bit but when they still didn't move she left. Vaughn winced as she slammed the door.
"Ha," Josie whispered breaking the long awkward silence. "I win." He smiled. Typical Josie.
"I give," he said gently.
"The truth."
"The WHOLE truth." He said putting his hand to his heart. "But, I don't believe it's entirely my fault."
"Neither do I. Now," She said grabbing her pillow. "Explain." He ducked.
The pillow hit 'Play' on the CD player and 'The truth' began to play again. But the two couldn't care less, they were too busy laughing, explaining, and ducking from each other.
I wish I could say Josie accepted his apology with good grace, but everyone who's ever SEEN Black Hole High should know...that's not Josie. She brutally attacked him with the pillow during the bits she didn't like, she wasn't hurting him, but it stopped her tearing his head off. And I'm happy to say,
Vaughn finally told the truth.
