Good morning, fanfic readers and writers! I bring news.
If you go and re-read the Fanfic Rules you will notice a few changes. The main change is that Slash (same-sex pairings/romance) is no longer against the rules. It has been concluded by ye team of mods that same-sex romance does not break the rules of the TOS unless it is rated higher than pg13 (the same goes for het - that is opposite sex pairings and romance - and fanfics with no pairings or romance). Given that it does not go against the TOS and is now increasingly popular (Ah, I remember years ago when I thought I was the only one - glad to know I'm not ) the general feeling was that slash should be allowed. This change has brought with it a few other changes. So I'm going to try to make this message as clear and easy to understand as I can:
No fics whatsoever, be they slash or het, may be rated above pg13 or contain innapropriately adult material. So far everybody has been really good with this and we expect the good behaviour to continue! This is just a reminder which serves to point out to anybody who may be thinking it that we do not consider slash in itself to be 'adult' material. It is only adult if it crosses the same boundaries as het fics. Do not complain that a fanfic is too adult to be considered pg13 because of something silly like boys holding hands.
Not everybody likes slash, for whatever reasons (we do not need to discuss these reasons, each to his own). We must respect that. All fics containing slash must include a warning. This helps both the people who don't like slash (who will see the warning and can then decide whether to read on and brave the slash or whether to click the back button) AND the authors - if a slash fic includes a warning then what the reader encounters becomes their own responsibility. The catchphrase here is 'if you don't like it then don't read it'. Anybody who reads a clearly labelled slash fic and then complains about the fact that it has same-sex pairings will be considered to be flaming, spamming, trolling etc. and will be warned, suspended or banned depending on the severity and /or extent of the response.
It is also sensible to include a warning on any pg13 het fic as well as slash fics, with a warning of the pairing too.
So, to recap:
1) Slash (same-sex romance) is allowed.
2) All fics must be rater pg13 or lower. Absolutely no R or NC17 rated fics are allowed. If R or NC17 material is posted contact a moderator with a link and explanation straight away.
3) All slash fics must be clearly labelled as such. This includes both m/m and f/f.
4) Including a warning of what the fic contains is a good idea for any pg13 fic, just in case.
5) Do not flame authors either in response threads or via PM if they have posted a clearly labelled slash fic. If you don't like slash, don't read slash fics! If you come accross a slash fic that is not labelled, again, do not flame, simply contact a moderator.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in this thread. And by 'questions' I mean sensible questions, not things like 'why do you allow slash it's gross/wrong?' I expect everybody to be fairly sensible about the change, don't dissapoint me.
