Thanks for the replies, guys, it's interesting to read your responses and take on the matter. Is it explored in the series whether or not Vaughn's joining the Science Club and befriending its members has any effect on his social status with the friends that he spent most of his time with before he joined the Science Club? I know that it seems to have no effect on Madison's view on him, but I would have thought that, for some of Vaughn's friends, at least, his associating with what must appear to them rather geeky people would have caused them to drop him as a friend.

[glow=blue,9,999]I don't think he's a dumb jock, at least not in Science Club. If you watched the episode Who?, Professor Z tells his dad he's doing great in Science Club, but that his test scores in Science class haven't improved. I think that has to do with his dyslexia. I think if Professor Z were to give him an oral exam, he'd pass with flying colors.
Him joining the Science Club doesn't seem to have affected his relationships with Stew or any of his other friends.[/glow]

If your friends are really such friends, they wont abandon you.
BTW, I'm in my school's version of the Science Club, and I'm never ashamed to admit it. And this year I got 6th place in the regional tournament in the category of forensics. ;D
Though I am rather ashamed of my place in the Japanese club. I'm in it because Japanese is my school language, but most club members are either geeky "we're smarter and better than white kids" asians or anime nerds. Sure, I like anime, but I'm not obsessive like some.

In most high schools (American at least) Calculus is basically the top level math class, and only the most advanced students take it. My school didn't even offer calculus, only pre-calc. Yes, I was in it, and yes I sucked at it.
Now, we've debated before if all of the students at BHH would be considered "gifted" or "advanced"; therefore, calculus would just be par for the course. Still, I was a little surprised to see Vaughn in it myself. Maybe just a writer's oversight?I doubt that most of Vaughn's "friends" are like that. Part of the joy/curse of being popular (like Marshall's brother, right?! ) Along the same lines, I think Vaughn is popular enough (i.e. rich enough) that he can pretty much do what he wants and still maintain his status. See?! All those hours of watching C.S.I. weren't in vain! I KNEW I could learn things from watching that show! If only I could convince my husband of that.

I dont think he's a dumb jock, sometimes he lacks common sense, perhaps we should define "dumb."

perhaps we should define "dumb." stupid? moronic? imbecilic? That's kind of harsh. Dumb isn't brain impaired to that extent. Dumb is just dense, dim, not as bright as normal.
Vaughn's more functionally challenged than actually dumb anyway.

I didnt call Vaughn stupid, but lets not decieve ourselves here. Stupid people are stupid, not "academically different".

No. I wasn't saying you were saying that about Vaughn, I was saying that's harsh to define and describe dumb that way. That seems to be more descriptive of Stew anyway. And I was talking about Vaughn's dyslexia makes him functionally challenged, without it he's not.

I know, I wasnt saying that about Vaugh. I was jointly replying to both you and MC, as well as any over-PC person around. And now, I wasnt calling either you or MC over-PC.
